With vacation season in full swing it is a good time to remind you about the dangers of Heat Exhaustion and Heat Stroke. As you plan your summer activities, be aware of the dangers and take steps to be sure you are safe.
We’d like to help you be informed! Know the difference between Heat Stroke and Heat Exhaustion.
Heat Exhaustion symptoms will be different than a Heat Stroke. For Heat Exhaustion look for these symptoms:
Heavy Profuse Sweating
Cool Clammy Skin
General Weakness
Dizziness
Possible Nausea
If you suspect Heat Exhaustion it is suggested the person lie down and loosen clothing. Apply cool wet cloths, Move to an air cooled area, use a fan. It is okay to offer sips of water if there is no nausea present. If the affected person vomits more than 1 time, seek help.
Heat Stroke symptoms.
High body temperature over 104 degrees.
Confusion and disorientation.
Rapid heartbreak or pulse.
Hot dry skin
Headache and Lightheadedness
Muscle Cramps
If you suspent Heat Stroke in someone or yourself. Call 911. Move to a cooler area. Do not drink or offer water.
Finally Heat Cramps can also be a factor in the summer. Take note, firm compression or gentle massage can help and sips of water are good if nausea is not present.
